Traditional broadcasters have been advantaged by extensive resources ranging from access to top-class expertise, funding through government allocations, infrastructure, access to content, stakeholder relationships, brand loyalty and advertising clients. These were just some of the few favourable traditional broadcaster resources listed by Pascal Schmitz, the Head of Acquisitions at AAA Entertainment.
During Broadcast Media Africa’s (BMA) recently held an online forum on “Content Distribution Platforms And OTT Streaming Services”, Schmitz participated in a conversation which addressed “Why Should Broadcasters Bother With OTT Content Distribution? How Should They Bother?”.
Moreover, Schmitz tackled the role of mobile networks in the distribution of broadcasting and video streaming services in Africa, as well as the power traditional broadcasters play in the bigger scheme. Finally, the Head of Acquisitions noted that OTT is not a one-size-fits-all solution, suggesting that understanding your audience is the key to success.
The online forum was an initiative by Broadcast Media Africa (BMA), in partnership with the Southern African Broadcasting Association (SABA) and the Independent Producers’ Organisation (South Africa) to help broadcasters identify strategies that will help deliver value to stakeholders.
