BBC Studios and the South African Broadcasting Corporation (SABC) have teamed up to bring viewers a new two-hour content block that will showcase an array of award-winning dramas, factual entertainment, and documentaries from the BBC Studios catalogue.
The collaboration between BBC Studios and SABC will offer viewers in South Africa access to globally recognised content. The content block will feature a range of shows, including the psychological crime thriller Luther, starring Idris Elba, the intense medical drama Critical, the gripping factual motoring show Top Gear (Season 14-17), and the romantic comedy Cheaters. Documentary series Louis Theroux: Forbidden America, exploring three controversial corners of American entertainment and culture, will also be available to watch from the launch.
BBC Studios in Africa commercial director Pierre Cloete expressed excitement about the launch of the first BBC-branded block in Africa with SABC. The offering will be BBC Studios’ widest-reaching branded service in Europe, the Middle East, and Africa.
SABC programming manager Sane Zondi said the partnership with BBC Studios was necessary for the public broadcaster to fulfil its commitment to delivering high-quality international content to its viewers.
Access to a vast catalogue from the BBC will allow viewers to enjoy unlimited, world-class entertainment on S3 through BBC Primetime. The deal will bring back some iconic BBC titles that form weekly habitual viewing, with Top Gear being the most notable.
