MTN Group, Africa’s largest telecommunications provider, has named Sandile Gwala as an independent non-executive director, effective January 1, 2025.
Gwala is the co-founder and CEO of a consulting firm that serves local and international clients. He holds a Bachelor of Commerce (B.Com) degree in Information Systems and a Master of Business Administration (MBA) from the University of Natal in South Africa.
Previously, Gwala served as a group executive director and partner at Deloitte, working in South Africa, the UK, and Denmark.
In a statement regarding his appointment, MTN highlighted Gwala’s involvement as a non-executive director and participant in various board subcommittees for Harambe, a nonprofit organisation. He has also served as a non-executive director for the Business Process Enabling South Africa, an industry association.
MTN emphasised that Gwala’s extensive expertise in accounting, finance, and corporate performance will be invaluable, and both the chairman and board members are eager to see the significant impact he will have on the company’s ongoing growth.
