Ten talented young filmmakers were recently introduced to the movie industry through a film Lab sponsored by the British Council. The training program, led by respected professionals such as Sunkanmi Adebayo, Tolu Ajayi, and Don Omope, aimed to equip the emerging filmmakers with essential skills and knowledge in film production.

Brenda Fasuba, the Head of Arts, Nigeria/Regional Head at British Council, proudly introduced the young producers, highlighting the diversity and exceptional talent they bring to the industry. The program, which kicked off last year, attracted entries from aspiring filmmakers across the country.

During a roundtable discussion themed ‘Reframe Your Future: Meeting The Gap,’ panellists delved into the intricacies of filmmaking and the challenges of securing funding to support the entire production process. Industry experts, including Tolu Ajayi and Brenda Fasugba, highlighted the significance of acquiring the right knowledge, skills, and collaboration.

Ten short films produced during the training were showcased at the Legend Hotel, Airport Road, Ikeja event. Curated by the Film Lab of the British Council, these films covered a range of compelling themes, including domestic abuse, resilience in the face of illness, and societal issues like a failed system.

The young producers were highly praised for their creativity and motivation. Brenda Fasugba, the Executive Producer of all ten shorts, encouraged them to continue reflecting on the valuable lessons learned in their future endeavours within the movie industry.
