The World Telecommunication Standardization Assembly (WTSA) will be taking place from October 15 to 24 at New Delhi’s Pragati Maidan Conference and Exhibition Centre. The event is organized by the International Telecommunication Union (ITU) and serves as a platform for policy-makers and industry leaders to discuss and prioritize international standards that support industry growth, innovation, and trust in new technologies.

This year’s WTSA will mark the first meeting in Asia and will be accompanied by a digital innovation festival showcasing the latest tech developments from India and around the world.

The ITU Global Standards Symposium, a key highlight of the event, will begin on World Standards Day, October 14. The symposium will delve into innovations in areas such as artificial intelligence (AI), the metaverse, secure digital finance, and smart cities. It will feature a high-level segment welcoming ministers and industry executives to discuss digital transformation ambitions and associated standardization demands. Importantly, the symposium will also include the inaugural session of ITU’s new International AI Standards Summit to set comprehensive standards for the fast-evolving AI landscape.

During WTSA-24, the Network of Women in ITU standardization will significantly promote women’s leadership in the digital tech industry and support technical standardization processes. The event will also feature AI for Good Impact India, the first regional event under the umbrella of ITU’s new AI for Good Impact Initiative. This initiative aims to expand the scope and impact of AI applications for sustainable development. Furthermore, a Robotics for Good Youth Challenge will welcome teams of young Indian innovators to compete for prizes and global recognition for robotics solutions supporting disaster response.

The WTSA Expo will accompany the global conference, showcasing the latest industry solutions built to ITU standards. It will provide an opportunity for companies, particularly small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) from developing countries, to participate with support from the ITU Bridging the Standardization Gap program. Overall, the WTSA-24 is expected to set new benchmarks in standardization to drive sustainable growth in information and communication technologies.
