BMA has learnt that MTN and Uganda’s Capital Markets Authority (CMA) are exploring potential partnerships to increase investment in the East African country.
According to the two parties, the initiative is expected to raise public awareness of capital markets, which are often considered restricted to the privileged.
The CMA hosted a delegation from the country’s largest mobile network operator, MTN, led by Sylvia Mulinge, CEO.
While little information was offered about how the relationship would finally work, executives from both organisations acknowledged that they had engaged in productive discussions on regulatory and development issues.
“Exciting prospects lie ahead as we work together to empower more Ugandans with knowledge and opportunities,” said CMA CEO Josephine Okui Ossiya.
MTN shared Ossiya’s thoughts: “As we collaborate to provide more Ugandans with opportunities in the capital markets space, we look forward to continuing our relationship and making progress together.”
