The South African Broadcasting Corporation (SABC) has recently announced its partnership with rights-holders Infront to secure the free-to-air broadcasting rights for the Premier League this season.
SABC will be broadcasting one live Premier League match every Saturday at 3 pm as part of this package deal. While SuperSport remains the primary rights-holder for all Premier League matches, their digital platform Showmax will also provide access to all the action.
Under the new agreement, SABC will be showcasing 33 live Premier League matches on SABC 3 and their digital platforms, including www.sabcsport.com and SABC+. The primary broadcast platform for the live presentation of matches will be SABC Sport, with SABC 3, www.sabcsport.com, and SABC+ also simultaneously airing the games live.
In an official statement, the SABC emphasized that this move aligns with SABC Sport’s strategic objective of making the “world’s greatest football league available to all audiences.” The live matches will feature a comprehensive studio build-up, including match previews and the latest team and player news, presented by SABC Sport anchors and analysts on both TV and digital platforms.
Keletso Totlhanyo, the SABC’s Head of Sport, expressed excitement about the new partnership, describing the acquisition of the Premier League broadcasting rights as a strategic direction for the SABC. Totlhanyo emphasized that this move provides various marketing opportunities for SABC Sport and other SABC brands, creating a sense of euphoria for South Africans and setting the stage for what they hope will be a long-lasting partnership with the Premier League.
