Netflix has recently announced the appointment of Jeff Gaspin to its executive team as the Vice President of Unscripted Series. Gaspin, who previously served as the chief of NBC Universal Television Entertainment, will be responsible for expanding Netflix’s portfolio of reality programming. His appointment comes after the departure of Jenn Levy, who previously oversaw unscripted series at Netflix. Gaspin will report to Brandon Riegg, Vice President of Nonfiction Series.
Expressing his excitement about joining Netflix, Gaspin said, “I was always most successful and happiest when I built or ran unscripted at VH1, Bravo, and NBCU. I can’t wait to do the same at Netflix.” Gaspin also highlighted his previous collaborations with Netflix as a producer through his company, Gaspin Media, on projects like Rhythm & Flow and The Tinder Swindler.
Riegg welcomed Gaspin to the team, praising his extensive experience and talent in the unscripted television. He expressed eagerness to continue working with Gaspin, citing their previous collaborations on successful Netflix projects. Gaspin’s extensive background includes serving as Chairman of NBC Universal Television Entertainment from 2009 to 2011, where he oversaw iconic shows like Queer Eye for the Straight Guy and Project Runway during his tenure as President of Bravo. He also played a significant role at VH1, where he created the popular series Behind the Music.
The appointment of Gaspin is a significant step for Netflix as it aims to diversify its content offerings and expand its presence in the unscripted genre. With Gaspin’s expertise and track record of success, Netflix aims to solidify its position as a leader in the streaming industry further.
