Like many other institutions, the broadcasting sector is in transition. The advent of the Internet and the revolution in information and communication technologies have fundamentally impacted the systems, management, operations, and even perceptions of media houses, including broadcasting. Specifically, the business of news gathering, processing, and dissemination, as well as programmes or general content production in broadcasting, is significantly changing.
With this in mind, the international Broadcasters Convention (West Africa), a pivotal event for the industry, scheduled to take place from 14 to 15 August 2024 at the Nicon Luxury Hotel in Abuja, Nigeria, will host national and international professional broadcasters, scholars, regulatory agencies, civil society activists, new media activists, media managers, policymakers, lawmakers, legal experts, broadcast content consumers, advertisers, and all relevant stakeholders in and out of the broadcasting industry.
With the theme ‘Broadcasting and the Economy of Content Production in the Digital Age: The Nigerian Perspective,‘ the convention underscores the industry’s need to adapt and thrive in the digital era.
Collocated with the 1st Annual National Conference Of Society Of Nigerian Broadcasters, the convention, in partnership with the Broadcasting Organisation of Nigeria (BON), is designed to assist industry stakeholders and players in assessing the multiple roles, responsibilities and opportunities.
Speaking about the upcoming event and national conference, Dr Yemisi Bamgbose, Executive Secretary of the Broadcasting Organisations of Nigeria (BON), said, “The rise of the digital and social media landscape has led to a general decline in the conventional media with multiple disruptions, reduced patronage and a decline in advertising revenue. This event is further designed to assist industry stakeholders and players in assessing the multiple roles, responsibilities, and opportunities that will allow them to effectively handle and manage the changing role of broadcast media professionals within society—especially as digital media becomes a stark reality.”
Echoing Dr Bamgbose’s comment, Mr Benjamin Pius, CEO of BMA and Publisher of the platform, said: “Nigeria has one of the most vibrant media sectors in Africa, and it is pure delight to be able to convene the industry’s leadership and professionals once again at the forthcoming convention that will also draw participants from across the region and globally.”
“This event will provide a crucial platform for stakeholders to discuss, review, and evaluate strategic and operational issues related to some of the industry’s essential issues.” Mr Pius added.
