Global streaming platform Prime Video has announced the upcoming premiere of the Nigerian movie “Water and Garri” exclusively in more than 240 countries and territories later this year.

The movie follows the story of Aisha, an ambitious fashion designer who returns to her hometown after living in the United States for a decade following a family tragedy. Upon her return, she is faced with a changed environment marked by increased violence and tension. As she navigates her newfound reality and confronts the guilt she left behind, Aisha must deal with the complexities of her past.

Shot in Cape Coast, Ghana, Water and Garri stars Mike Afolarin, Andrew Bunting, and Jemima Osunde alongside Tiwa Savage. The movie is co-produced by Everything Savage, Unbound Studios, and JM Films, directed and edited by Meji Alabi, and written by Comfort Emmanuel. Tiwa Savage also contributed to the film’s music.

Ayanna Lonian, Director of Content Acquisition at Prime Video, expressed her excitement for the film, stating that audiences worldwide are looking for contemporary African stories, and Water and Garri delivers that with a fresh perspective. She also praised Meji Alabi and Tiwa Savage for their outstanding work on the movie.

Tiwa Savage also expressed her excitement at the opportunity to bring her film to a global audience, noting that it was a dream come true. She praised Meji Alabi for bringing the story to life in such a beautiful way and expressed her eagerness to share it with the world.

Jimi Adesanya, Producer and Unbound Studios Executive, also expressed his thrill at collaborating with Prime Video and praised the cross-power of film and music. He noted that Water and Garri is a cultural milestone, especially out of Africa, and celebrates this exciting time.
