The Zimbabwe Broadcasting Corporation (ZBC) has acquired a license to open a new television channel. The state broadcaster in Zimbabwe has announced. In a public notice, the state broadcaster revealed that the new TV channel will be known as Zimbabwe National TV.
A statement from ZBC read in part, “Take notice that in terms of Section 10(11) of the Broadcasting Services Act, (Chapter 12:06), the Zimbabwe Broadcasting Corporation hereby publishes its license for the provision of a new Television Channel called Zimbabwe National Television (ZNTV).”
Currently, the state broadcaster operates one television channel, Ztv, and four radio stations, namely, Spot FM, Radio Zimbabwe, Power FM and National FM.
Recently the broadcaster has been criticised for being used as a propaganda machine by the ruling Zanu PF party, particularly during elections.
Zimbabweans will this year vote in potentially explosive elections that promise to be a two-horse race between President Emmerson Mnangagwa’s ruling Zanu PF and the main opposition Citizens Coalition for Change (CCC) party led by Nelson Chamisa.
