Egypt has selected Voy Voy Voy! as its official entry for the Oscars’ Best International Feature Film award. Written and directed by Omar Hilal, the film marks his cinematic debut and transition from the world of adverts to film. The film will be released on September 13 in Egypt and September 21 across the GCC.
Voy! Voy! Voy! will also premiere at the Red Sea International Film Festival 2023. A collaborative effort between Vox Studios, Film Clinic and Image Nation Abu Dhabi, the film is a notable shift for Omar Hilal, making his debut in cinema after a successful career in advertising.
Inspired by true-life events, Voy! Voy! Voy! features an ensemble cast including stars such as Mohamed Farrag, Nelly Karim and Bayoumi Fouad alongside up-and-coming talent Taha Desouky, Amgad El Hagar and Mohamed Abdel Azeem. Omar Hilal wrote the script. Mohamed Hefzy and Omar Hilal produced it.
Voy! Voy! Voy! tells the story of Hassan, a security guard living an impoverished life with his mother, who dreams of travelling and living abroad. On this journey, he crosses paths with several characters, an attractive young journalist who starts to take an interest in the team as he takes an interest in her, a middle-aged coach looking for an opportunity, and his two best friends.
