The creation of inventory prior to digitisation is of vital essence to ensure digitisation and marketing of your archived content runs concurrently. These were some of the essential pieces of advice shared by Caroline Caruelle, the Founder Associate at Archive TV, during the recently concluded online forum on ‘Realising Commercial Value And Monetisation Of Archived Content – Strategies And Options’.
During the conversation, Broadcast Media Africa (BMA) asked Caruelle to provide the best advice to organisations that would like to commercialise and monetise their content. The organisations in reference are challenged with the shared reality of limited resources. In responding, Caruelle noted that the first common mistake when digitising content is the act of duplications. Caroline then advised organisations to always start by creating a comprehensive inventory in order to understand their library.
The Founder Associate also stressed the importance of knowing who your target market is so as to digitise the content based on your monetisation capability.
The online forum was an initiative by Broadcast Media Africa (BMA), in partnership with Apricity Consulting, to ‘Preserving Africa’s Sound and Audio-Visual Assets’ by helping audio-visual archive professionals understand new and existing ways for conserving historical materials in order to digitise and preserve audio-visual archive materials.
