eMedia has indicated that it will release “a couple of” extra channels on its Openview platform in its 2022/23 financial year-end.
In April, Openview had already introduced three channels: eXposed, ePlesier, and The House Channel +.
In its annual report from 1 April 2021 to 31 March 2022, the free-to-air broadcaster also indicated that it would introduce an upgraded “smarter” decoder with garage and Wi-Fi features.
According to the annual report, Openview and eMedia’s channels on the DStv platform accounted for 21.9 per cent of eMedia’s advertising revenue, bringing in US$29 million — up from US$17 million in the previous year.
“Profitability on this unit has been completed for the primary time with content material prices for the fiscal being pegged at US$26. 3 million,” eMedia reported.
eMedia also reported an improvement in the ratings of the six channels it produces for satellite TV.
eExtra, eMovies Further, and eReality rank in the top 15 of all satellite channels available in South Africa, the broadcaster mentioned.
In a statement to the media, eMedia stated that the Competition Commission’s current investigation had highly impacted its audience and revenue share from the distribution of four Openview entertainment channels on Multichoice.
