“Ivie” is the Nollywood film currently under production to be launched in September. Leading actors in the movie titled include Nollywood veteran Segun Arinze alongside Bimbo Manuel, Bimbo Akintola, Jude Orhorha, and Kelvin Ikeduba.
The film is produced by Kingsley Omoefe, executively produced by Opa Williams and directed by filmmaker Patience Oghre-Imobhio.
According to the producer, ‘Ivie’ was named after the protagonist of the story, which centres around a true-life story in Benin, Edo State.
The film tells a story about rape, family values and comic relief.
Shading light on the growth of Nollywood, the producer said, “People are beginning to recognise our films, our viewers have grown so large, even beyond the boundaries of Nigeria. I recently had the pleasure of working with the Caribbeans, and our films are known there too. Some of our actors are popular there.”
Mr Omoefe also mentioned that the film is shot in different locations like motor parks, schools, ghettos and other places in Nigeria to give the movie a feel of reality.
According to Segun Arinze, one of the cast, the film also highlights gender issues and would resonate with viewers on different levels.
“The movie talks about abuse, the female child getting involved in sexual malice. It is a film that will remind us why we need to put a strong focus on the girl child,” he added.
