
The Broadcasting Organisation of Nigeria (BON) plans to establish The Society of Nigerian Broadcasters as a governing body for the practice of broadcasting in Nigeria.
The Executive Secretary of BON, Dr Yemisi Bambose, issued a statement directing the heads of broadcasting organisations in the country to sensitise their staff on the formation of the society in their various stations across the country in preparation for the society’s inauguration at the national level, which is expected to take place soon.
The Broadcasting Organisation of Nigeria, BON, unanimously adopted the plan to establish the organisation at the 75th General Assembly held on October 7, 2021, in Kano, according to the statement.
The society’s functions include coordinating, setting standards, admitting, and developing comprehensive training on the practice of broadcasting in Nigeria. The organisation will also regulate professional discipline and grant certificates of practice.
Current and former staff of broadcast media’s program, news, and engineering divisions with a minimum of a Diploma Certificate and five years of experience in broadcasting or lecturing are eligible to join the society. Membership types are student membership, Associate membership and full membership.
The statement also hinted that the registration form and membership subscription would be made available soon.
