The National Broadcasting Commission has approached the National Information Technology Development Agency (NIDTA) and requested that the nation’s IT regulator intervene in the digitisation of its processes to change the Commission’s operation by incorporating modern digital technology equipment in monitoring media stations. Accordingly, Balarabe Ilelah, Director-General of NBC, paid a courtesy visit to NITDA Corporate Headquarters, seeking the agency’s support. The abovementioned was noted in a news release headlined ‘NBC seeks NITDA’s support on capacity building and digital transformation’ published recently by NITDA Spokesperson Hadiza Umar.
According to the news release, Kashifu Abdullahi, Director-General of NITDA, promised the NBC Director-General of his agency’s willingness to use its expertise to support any organisation eager to update to current technology. He also stated that NBC would be included in its Digital Transformation Working Group to support capacity building for their people and teach them relevant technology applications. Abdullahi also urged NBC to integrate its programs and operations into its Strategic Road Map and Action Plan 2021-2024, advising the Commission to develop a similar strategy for using modern technology in content regulations.
The SRAP is intended to serve as a template or road map to help the Agency achieve its goals by executing the strategic pillars. Director-General of NITDA, Kashifu Abdullahi, was quoted as saying that he is “optimistic about the collaboration which will boost the actualisation of its mandates such as digital skills, innovation, and others.” The courtesy visit concluded with Abdullahi taking the NBC DG on a tour of NITDA’s digital building, which included a view of the most modern and cutting-edge equipment for tracking and mitigating any cyber-attacks in Nigeria.
