According to media reports, South Africa-based pay TV broadcaster MultiChoice has picked up more than 40 hours of programming from All3Media International for its M-Net channel and Showmax streamer.
The agreement includes the award-winning drama It’s A Sin by Russell T Davies, which will become available to African audiences for the first time via an exclusive deal with Showmax.
Set between 1981 and 1991; the series depicts the lives of a group of gay men and their friends during the HIV/AIDS crisis in the United Kingdom. The series is from Red Productions.
Other scripted titles include Drama Republic’s The English, as well as Two Brothers Pictures’ The Tourist and Angela Black.
Unscripted titles include Highlife, the reality show from All3Media-owned Optomen Television that follows a generation of young, influential, trailblazing West African Brits living in London.
Speaking on the agreement, Kelly Shek, sales manager for Africa, the Middle East, Turkey and Israel at All3Media International, said, “We’re very pleased to partner with MultiChoice in Africa on this extensive package of premium titles—a lineup that showcases the very best of our scripted and non-scripted portfolios.”
“We’re particularly excited to see Highlife heading to Africa to give Showmax viewers a unique and engaging perspective on the Black British experience. And MultiChoice’s acquisition of the incredible It’s a Sin is also notable, allowing Showmax subscribers to access this heartbreaking yet joyful drama exploring themes that are as important and globally relevant today as they were 40 years ago.”
