Mandisa Silinda is a supervisor in the Media Information Management department at Multichoice
South Africa and has worked in broadcast archiving for 12 years.
Working within the Multichoice group since 2011, Mandisa has played an integral role in the
development of multiple metadata policies currently in use across the business, the development of
Media Asset Management systems and the streamlining of cataloguing and validation processes.
During her time in the business, she has added value in the running of major cataloguing and
digitisation projects, the evolution from tape to digital as well as the creation of networking
platforms. In her current role, she manages a 12-person team of cataloguers who take care of the M-
Net inventory of content and whose main aim is to ensure the accessibility of their vast selection of
materials in assisting Multichoice’s creation of stories for Africa. Mandisa’s eye for ensuring the best
preservation of content possible guaranties that they are always delivering pristine quality outputs.
Currently, apart from being one of the main contributors for the sales departments, the main project
Mandisa and her team are working on is the integration of AI cataloguing tools within our current
systems. The aim is to keep up to date with technology advancements while assuring that the team,
systems, and content quantity are attended to in the best ways.
Hand in hand with her business responsibilities comes her leadership abilities. Mandisa is passionate
about people development and empowerment and is focused on expanding her role in mentorship
and business coaching.
She has a Bachelor of Science in Information Science from the University of Pretoria and an
Advanced Certificate in Management Practices from Henley Business School. She was a delegate at
the SOIMA conference 2017 in Ghana where she presented a paper on future archival projects and
presented at the FIAT/IFTA Conference 2021 on the Evolution of Metadata in the world of broadcast
archiving.
