MultiChoice Removes PBS Kids Channel – Losing 12th DStv Channel This Year

MultiChoice is set to remove PBS Kids (DStv 313) from its channel lineup by the end of this month, making it the 12th TV channel to be discontinued this year. Despite not providing a specific reason for the removal, MultiChoice said it regularly reviews its channel lineup to ensure the best local and international content for its customers.

This move comes in the wake of several other TV channels being removed from MultiChoice’s pay-TV platform earlier this year.

The axing of PBS Kids follows a pattern of TV channels being dropped from MultiChoice, including prominent names like 1Magic, ME, and Emmanuel TV. In light of these changes, there’s growing concern among DStv subscribers, especially as the pay-TV operator has implemented price increases since April.

The removal of PBS Kids marks another significant shift in MultiChoice’s channel offerings. Vivendi’s Canal+ from France is actively engaged in a buyout of the company. This takeover comes in the face of strict South African regulations on foreign media ownership.

These changes are clearly raising questions and uncertainties among DStv subscribers, particularly as the platform undergoes significant transformations.
