According to the SABC, all the enhancements with the new SABC+ are designed to offer a seamless, intuitive interface and tailored content recommendations for an improved user experience.
However, industry watchers and analysts say the new SABC+ service has two potential downsides. First, users must re-register with phone numbers and other personal details to access the content. With the new registration process, all users, including those previously registered with TelkomONE and SABC+, must re-enter their details to create new accounts. Required information includes name, surname, date of birth, gender, country, and mobile number, with an optional email address.
The SABC says it is unwavering in its commitment to user privacy. The new registration process, while requiring some effort, is a necessary step to comply with the Protection of Personal Information Act. This emphasis on data protection should reassure users of the SABC+ platform.
Secondly, industry watchers caution about including display banners and video ads that may irk those accustomed to ad-free on-demand streaming. To this end, SABC Group CEO Nomsa Chabeli highlighted the organisation’s dedication to offering the best-in-class content programming play.
