Broadcast Media Africa has learnt that MultiChoice Africa Holdings (MAH) and the Ministry of ICT and National Guidance for Uganda have forged a new cooperation agreement through a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU).

BMA understands that the MoU aims to establish stronger partnerships, promote digitalisation, enhance the local content sector in Uganda, protect intellectual property rights, and foster skills development within legal frameworks.

The signing ceremony, a momentous occasion held in Johannesburg for technical facilities benchmarking purposes, was graced by Dr Aminah Zawedde, the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of ICT and National Guidance. This event marked a significant milestone in the partnership between MAH and the Ministry, setting the stage for a new era of cooperation.

The MoU encompasses MAH and its affiliate MultiChoice Uganda, serving as the local partner, and outlines plans for ongoing collaboration between MAH and the Ministry of ICT and National Guidance.

Dr Aminah Zawedde, the PS of the Ministry of ICT and National Guidance, expressed her satisfaction with the agreement, saying, “I am glad to sign this MoU on behalf of the Ministry of ICT and National Guidance for Uganda.”

With a rich history of three decades of operations in Uganda, MultiChoice has been a steadfast provider of quality sports, education, and entertainment content. This long-standing commitment underscores MultiChoice’s dedication to the local market and its continuous efforts to cater to the diverse needs of Ugandan viewers.

Dr Keabetswe Modimoeng, Group Executive: Regulatory & Corporate Affairs at MultiChoice Group, hailed the MoU as a positive step towards strengthening relations between the parties. He emphasised Uganda’s strategic importance for commercial growth and socio-development initiatives. The presence of the Permanent Secretary for the Ministry of ICT and National Guidance, accompanied by MultiChoice Uganda’s Managing Director, Mr. Hassan Saleh, underscores the collaborative efforts between the private and public sectors to benefit Ugandan society.
