The organisers of the upcoming Broadcast Media Convention – East Africa 2025, which will be held in Kampala, Uganda, have announced that industry leaders and executives will gather to explore various strategies for acquiring and producing local content.

Taking place at The Four Points By Sheraton in Kampala, Uganda, and hosted by the Uganda Communications Commission (UCC) in close collaboration with the Uganda Broadcasting Corporation (UBC) and Broadcast Media Africa, the convention is scheduled for 27th – 28th May 2025. It will focus on the benefits, challenges, and opportunities presented by different models—licensing, co-production, and commissioning—within today’s rapidly evolving broadcasting environment.

In a joint statement regarding the hosting of this significant event in Kampala, the Executive Director of the Uganda Communications Commission (UCC), Honourable George Nyombi Thembo, and the Managing Director of Uganda Broadcasting Corporation (UBC), Mr David Winston Agaba, highlighted their commitment to advancing local content production.

Mr. Benjamin Pius, CEO and Publisher of Broadcast Media Africa, also shared insights on evolving content strategies, stating, “The choice of content by broadcasters in Africa is not a one-size-fits-all decision. Broadcasters must consider their audience, the cost of production, and the strategic alignment with their brand to deliver tailored narratives that resonate deeply with African audiences.”

He concluded, “The collaboration between UCC and UBC underscores the commitment to fostering stronger ties within the African media community.”
