As AI-driven digital transformation accelerates across East Africa, the demand for locally produced content, dedicated channels, and engaging programmes has never been greater. The upcoming Broadcast And Digital Media Convention – East Africa 2025, set to take place on 27 – 28 May 2025 in Kampala, Uganda, co-convened by Broadcast Media Africa and Uganda Broadcasting Corporation (UBC), with the Uganda Communications Commission (UCC) as the principal host, will provide a platform for industry leaders to explore strategies for enhancing local content in the digital broadcasting space.
As digital TV penetration increases, local channels are evolving from traditional broadcasting to multi-platform delivery. Broadcasters such as UBC and regional players are investing in digital terrestrial TV (DTT), satellite, and Over-the-Top (OTT) platforms to reach wider audiences. The integration of AI-driven content recommendations, interactive programming, and on-demand viewing options will be pivotal in the growth of digital broadcasting in the region.
