Mobile telecommunications leader MTN Ghana aims to achieve 75% digital capability and skills training across the nation by 2025. This initiative is part of a strategic reorientation of the MTN Ghana Foundation, the company’s charitable branch.
During a recent presentation at the fourth quarter Media Republic Connect held at MTN Ghana’s headquarters, Adwoa Wiafe, the company’s Chief Corporate Services and Sustainability Officer, outlined the company’s roadmap. She emphasized that the foundation plans to reach its digital capability goal through various digital projects, community support programs, and alignment with national priorities.
Wiafe highlighted several initiatives, including establishing the Mamfe Girls Robotics Lab, which serves as a vital resource centre for Senior High Schools in the area. Additionally, they inaugurated a 40-seater ICT lab at Yilo Krobo and supplied equipment to the Wiamose ICT Facility and various digital health diagnostic tools as part of their projects.
As part of the Community Support Programs, MTN Ghana has also provided digital skills training to empower youth, women, and individuals with disabilities. This is being executed through initiatives such as Digital Skills for Digital Jobs, Y’ello Care, and the Bright Scholarship program for STEM students at the tertiary level, complemented by various enterprise programs.
Since launching the MTN Ghana Foundation, the company has invested GH¢106.5 million in social impact initiatives, which have positively affected approximately 4.5 million lives, directly and indirectly, through the completion of 166 projects.
“Our vision is to create sustainable digital solutions that make a difference in communities and reach 100,000 lives by 2025. We are committed to embracing innovation to drive social change, cultivate effective partnerships, and empower individuals in underserved areas,” said Wiafe.
She further reaffirmed MTN’s commitment to sustainability through Project Zero, which focuses on expanding broadband access and enhancing women’s representation in the workforce through hiring and training programs and technology initiatives.
MTN Ghana plans to grow its active subscriber base, merchants, and agents annually while improving customer experiences by adopting advanced services and self-service options.
