The National Broadcasting Commission (NBC) has expressed disappointment over the recent raid on Urban Radio 94.5 FM in Enugu by officials of the Economic and Financial Crime Commission (EFCC).
In a statement signed by Susan Obi, director of Public Affairs, NBC expressed regret over the invasion of the radio station and stressed the significant impact of the broadcast media on society.
The Commission views the EFCC’s actions as a violation of the professional ethics of broadcasting, particularly during a live broadcast. The manner in which the arrest was carried out is deemed improper.
While acknowledging the EFCC’s efforts in combating financial crimes, NBC disagrees with its approach, which has the potential to incite public disorder and panic.
NBC sincerely apologises to the listening public, the people of Enugu State, and the entire broadcast industry for the incident. The Commission urges the general public to abide by the law as legal proceedings occur.
Media professionals are also encouraged to uphold ethical standards and fulfill their responsibilities.
