BMA has learnt that Google and Zambia are teaming up to establish an Artificial Intelligence Centre of Excellence at the University of Zambia.
The Zambian Ministry of Technology and Science revealed the development yesterday via social media.
The facility is expected to provide young innovators with an opportunity to develop solutions to the country’s societal challenges.
“Young people will be coming here to create products and solutions from their ideas that can help us alleviate certain problems,” said Felix Mutati, Zambia’s minister of technology and science.
The Google partnership is Zambia’s second AI collaboration in recent months as the country intensifies its efforts to promote the adoption of emerging technologies.
In July, Zambia and the Czech Republic began collaborating to train young people in AI and cyber security.
The Czech Republic pledged 25 scholarships for bachelor’s and master’s degrees in artificial intelligence, cyber security, and related information and communication technologies.
