Intelsat, in partnership with MaxIQ Space, is set to broaden its Africa Space STEM Programme, targeting schools in Kenya, Nigeria, South Africa, and Senegal. Now entering its fifth year, this initiative aims to engage 12 schools and provide hands-on learning experiences for students.

The program offers practical training, expert guidance, and STEM kits that fuse space science, sustainability, and IoT education into the classroom experience.

The updated 2025 initiative seeks to empower educators and schools to make a sustainable impact on the educational landscape in Africa. Through this program, thousands of students will acquire vital skills and inspiration to excel in STEM careers, which are crucial for developing a future-ready workforce and advancing national ambitions.

“As a leader in satellite technology, Intelsat is dedicated to maximising its role in inspiring the next generation and connecting African students with practical applications of space technology. We are committed to investing in cutting-edge satellite ground infrastructure across the continent, playing a pivotal role in equipping the youth for future challenges,” says the company representative.

Judi Sandrock, Programme Manager at MaxIQ Space, remarked, “As Africa emerges as a key player in space infrastructure, it’s vital to prepare future leaders with the knowledge and skills necessary for this transformation. Collaborating with Intelsat to implement the STEM program in Africa presents an exciting opportunity to nurture young talent and bolster the region’s technology and education sectors.”

Schools and educators across the participating nations are encouraged to apply for this fully funded opportunity to introduce real-world space education into their classrooms.

The application deadline is March 31, 2025.
