According to industry reports, CNN is set to expand its footprint in the Middle East by launching a new operation in Qatar, advancing its global and regional content growth strategy. Based in Media City Qatar, the new hub will become operational in the second half of 2025.

The Qatar-based operation will focus on creating multi-platform content that highlights trending global stories. A dedicated team of CNN content creators will manage digital and social media output while producing a weekly show for CNN International. This move aims to enhance CNN’s ability to deliver engaging content to a global audience.

This expansion complements CNN’s existing presence in the region, including its flagship Middle East headquarters in Abu Dhabi—home to Connect the World with Becky Anderson—and its operations in Dubai, which houses CNN Arabic and various other bureaus across the region.

Speaking about CNN’s expansion, His Excellency Sheikh Dr Abdulla bin Ali Al Thani, Chairman of Media City Qatar, said: “As Qatar’s media hub, Media City Qatar is excited to welcome CNN to our ecosystem, a place where the world’s most respected media brands can come together, collaborate, and innovate. This expansion signals the continued growth of Qatar’s strategic role in shaping global conversations from the heart of the Middle East – because here, where next is made, we are witnessing progress and making it happen.”

Beyond content creation, CNN’s new presence in Qatar will serve as a resource for covering major regional and global news, including geopolitics, business, technology, sports, culture and travel. Additionally, the network will contribute to local media development by offering journalism and production training to students and young professionals in Qatar.

Mike McCarthy, Executive Vice President & Managing Editor of CNN Worldwide, added: “CNN has a deep commitment to editorial coverage of the Middle East. Whether by adding to our ability to report from the region, providing new, cutting-edge studio facilities, or allowing us to tell a wider range of stories from here in new ways, including via a brand new weekly show, this new operation in Qatar both underscores and expands that commitment.”

Phil Nelson, Executive Vice President of CNN International Commercial, commented: “CNN’s brand promise is built on being a global source for trusted, timely news and information. This expansion into Qatar will bolster our regional and global operations, adding to our long-standing footprint in the Middle East. We look forward to launching innovative formats and content propositions from this new studio in Media City Qatar in the second half of 2025.”
