OTT Conference

The landscape of media consumption has shifted dramatically over the past decade, driven by technological advancements and the emergence of smart, connected TV (CTV) platforms. As organisers look ahead to the OTT Streaming Summit – Africa 2025  taking place on the 18 – 19 February 2025 at The Capital 15 On Orange – Cape Town, South Africa, industry leaders will delve into the intricate dynamics behind delivering streaming content on these evolving devices and what this means for content creators, advertisers, and consumers.

Smart TVs have transcended their initial purpose as mere displays for traditional broadcasting. They have become hubs of entertainment, integrating internet connectivity and apps that support a multitude of streaming services. Connected TV (CTV) extends beyond smart TVs to encompass gaming consoles, streaming sticks, and other devices that facilitate on-demand viewing experiences.

This shift has led to an ecosystem where streaming content is readily accessible, personalised, and interactive. The prevalence of CTV is shaping new content distribution strategies and has changed how audiences engage with media.

Mr. Benjamin Pius, CEO of Broadcast Media Africa, commented on the significance of these developments: “The rise of smart and connected TV platforms is fundamentally reshaping how we think about content delivery and audience engagement, particularly here in Africa. As the continent’s media landscape evolves, there is immense potential for CTV to bridge the digital divide and democratise access to rich content. However, we must work collectively to overcome the challenges of data affordability and infrastructure to fully harness this opportunity.”

As the industry looks forward to the OTT Streaming Summit – Africa 2025, discussions around smart and connected TV dynamics are set to explore how these technologies redefine content delivery and consumption. Stakeholders must address the associated challenges while seizing opportunities to create a seamless and inclusive streaming ecosystem for all.
