Day two of the Broadcast and Digital Media Convention 2024, held on 9th October 2024 at the Swakopmund Legacy Hotel, Namibia, unfolded with impactful presentations and discussions, exploring key trends and innovations shaping the media landscape in Africa and beyond.

The day began with a compelling presentation titled “Maximise Your Reach: Take Your Content Anywhere Cost-Effectively,” delivered by Pravin Udho, Managing Sales Director for Southern & East Africa at Intelsat. Udho emphasised the growing need for content providers to adopt cost-effective distribution methods while maximising audience reach. He outlined strategies to leverage satellite technology and other innovative solutions to ensure content accessibility across diverse geographies without compromising quality or reliability.

Following Udho’s session, a dynamic discussion led by representatives from Sputnik and RT brought forward insightful perspectives on content distribution, media influence, and the evolving role of international broadcasters in the African media ecosystem. The session sparked debate on the challenges and opportunities broadcasters face in balancing global narratives with local relevance.

Adding to the day’s rich content, Dr Jenfan Muswere, Zimbabwe’s Minister for Information, Publicity, and Broadcasting Services, gave a forward-thinking presentation highlighting the transformative potential of Artificial Intelligence (AI) on media broadcasting. Dr Muswere explored the transformative potential of AI, from automating workflows to enhancing audience engagement and content personalisation. His emphasis on the need for broadcasters to embrace AI to stay competitive while ensuring ethical content creation and distribution standards will excite the audience about the industry’s future.

Mr. Stanley Similo, Director General of the Namibia Broadcasting Corporation (NBC) and President of the Southern African Broadcasting Association (SABA), expressed his deep gratitude to all attendees for their unwavering dedication to the broadcast and digital media sectors. He highlighted the critical role their collaboration across borders and industries plays in ensuring the industry’s continued growth and success.

Benjamin Pius, CEO of Broadcast Media Africa, also extended his appreciation to the speakers, moderators, and participants, thanking them for their invaluable contributions. Pius highlighted the significant impact of their collective efforts in making the convention a platform for knowledge sharing, innovation, and networking, thereby inspiring the industry’s future direction.

The organisers would like to thank the event partners, Intelsat, LAWO, France24, Immedia, TVU Network, Sputnik, RT, Sweet.tv, Collexia, PowerCom, On Demand TV and Namibia Wild Resorts.
