Six Feet Over, the Algerian-French drama directed by Karim Bensalah and co-written with Jamal Belmahi, is scheduled to release on Netflix on August 22, 2024.
The film had its MENA debut at the 2023 Red Sea International Film Festival following its initial premiere at France’s Montpellier Mediterranean Film Festival in October.
Six Feet Over tells the story of Sofiane, the son of a former Algerian embassy clerk, who is now a student in Lyon. Facing the threat of expulsion after his visa is revoked, Sofiane takes a job at a Muslim funeral home in an attempt to secure his legal status. Amidst a mix of parties, encounters, and his unconventional work, Sofiane embarks on a journey of self-discovery, shaping his identity as he transitions into adulthood.
The film, shot by Pierre-Hubert Martin and edited by Bénédicte Cazauran, stars rising Moroccan actor Hamza Meziani, veteran Algerian actor Kader Affak, along with Souad Arsane and Mostefa Djadjam.
Oualid Baha (Tact Production) and Eugénie Michel Villette (Les Films du Bilboquet) produced the drama, which features a musical score by Adrien Casalis and sound engineering by Romain Cadilhac, Benjamin Rosier, Valère Raigneau, and Xavier Thieulin.
MAD Solutions handles the film’s distribution in the Arab world, with The Party Film Sales managing global distribution.
Karim Bensalah, born in Algiers to an Algerian father and a Brazilian mother, brings a diverse cultural perspective to the film.
