TV BRICS and “Orpheus” radio station will soon distribute Russian classical music to Zimbabwe. Classic 263 Radio (92.8 FM, Harare) of the national broadcaster ZBC broadcasts the “Reviving the Legacy of Russian Composers” series. Anton Arensky’s opera “Raphael” will open the season of works by authors from the first half of the 20th century, which will be performed on Sundays in the popular “All About Classics” programme.

Fungai Masango-Willard, Presenter of the “All About Classics” programme, said, “In the ‘All About Classics’ programme, which brings together music by world composers, we are presenting works by Russian authors for the first time. Classical music lovers in Zimbabwe are in for a real treat!”

The Zimbabwean population will later be able to familiarise themselves with the works of Georgy Katuar, Aleksey Zhivotov, Nikolay Golovanov, Vladimir Deshevov, Alexander Mosolov, and Leonid Polovinkin. Poorly preserved recordings were restored from sheet music and performed by Russian choral ensembles accompanied by the Radio Orpheus Symphony Orchestra. They all became part of the cycle “Reviving the Heritage of Russian Composers.”

Irina Gerasimova, General and Artistic Director of the Russian State Music TV and Radio Centre, recalled music’s universality as a language.

“I am sure that the works created by famous Russian composers of the early 20th century will not leave foreign listeners indifferent. Familiarisation with our musical heritage will further strengthen cultural ties between Russia and Zimbabwe,” she believes.

TV BRICS International Project Manager Yulia Nazarkina noted that the media network has cooperated successfully with the Zimbabwe National Broadcasting Corporation for several years. ZBC TV broadcasts TV BRICS programmes, and the ZBC News portal publishes news produced by the media network.

Last year, TV BRICS organised the broadcasting of Orpheus music programmes on the Brazilian radio stations Toda Palavra and Rádio Cultura Brasil.

TV BRICS combines a 24-hour TV channel and information portal in five languages: Russian, English, Chinese, Portuguese, and Spanish. TV BRICS media content is published daily by national media partners in 17 countries: Russia, Brazil, India, China, South Africa, Egypt, Iran, Argentina, Armenia, Venezuela, Zimbabwe, Kazakhstan, Kenya, Cuba, Mozambique, Tunisia and Chile. The total technical coverage of the TV BRICS partner network is over 1.5 billion users.

The mission of TV BRICS is to strengthen cooperation between the BRICS+ countries and disseminate objective information about the group’s activities. Media network is an official partner of the United Nations and a member of the Organising Committee for preparing and securing Russia’s chairmanship in the BRICS association in 2024.
