Netflix is set to release a new South African film called “Heart of the Hunter” on March 29th. Directed by Mandla Dube, who previously helmed “Silverton Siege,” the spy thriller is part of Dube’s multi-title deal with Netflix.
“Heart of the Hunter” is based on Deon Meyer’s classic crime novel. It follows the story of Zuko Khumalo, a man whose past life catches up with him, unravelling the simple life he has built for himself. As he fights for his country’s democracy and to keep his family safe, Khumalo must embark on one final mission where the stakes are high.
The trailer for the film showcases intense drama and high-octane action sequences, with Bonko Khoza leading the cast as Khumalo.
Other veteran South African actors, including Connie Ferguson, Masasa Mbangeni, and Tim Theron, are also featured in the film. Dube demonstrated his ability to balance South Africa’s unique politics and history with mainstream action thrillers, as seen in his previous work on “Silverton Siege” and “Kalushi.”
With Deon Meyer serving as a co-writer and executive producer on “Heart of the Hunter,” viewers can expect the film to stay true to its source material without any authenticity problems.
