In South Africa, the Arts and Culture Trust has unveiled a groundbreaking animated educational series tailored specifically for arts entrepreneurs.
Comprising six episodes, each available in different local languages, the ACT Tlholo Comic Strip Series aims to empower proactive artists with essential business knowledge and skills.
The series chronicles the journey of Pule, an aspiring creative entrepreneur, as he navigates the challenges of starting a business in the arts and culture sector. Pule’s journey is not just a story, but a gateway to a wealth of resources available on the ACT Tlholo Resources page. Here, Pule discovers valuable resources, gains practical knowledge, and connects with fellow arts practitioners and emerging entrepreneurs who can be instrumental in their professional growth.
“At ACT, we are deeply committed to ensuring that all arts practitioners, regardless of their background or location, feel valued and considered. That’s why we have launched the ACT Tlholo Comic Strip Series in 11 official South African languages. This initiative is not just about providing valuable tools and guidance, but also about fostering a more inclusive and supportive arts community for artists and arts entrepreneurs.” ACT CEO Jessica Denyschen emphasised.
Supported by Nedbank, the ACT Tlholo Resources page features animation videos and podcasts, all designed to provide practical insights and inspire creativity when navigating the competitive arts landscape. These resources, rooted in an asset-based community development ethos, encourage practitioners to leverage their existing resources and knowledge to build sustainable businesses and support their communities.
“The best way to reach a diverse audience is through a medium everyone enjoys, and the ACT Tlholo series is just that. Pule’s journey conveys business knowledge and entrepreneurial skills that are highly entertaining and memorable. During the series, Pule becomes a friend who journeys alongside you, the arts and culture entrepreneur, helping you face all the challenges of starting and growing a business.
