Showmax, a streaming platform powered by MultiChoice, has announced the launch of a new streaming offering for the African market that will feature live Premier League games and a wide range of other content to revolutionise digital entertainment across the continent.
According to Showmax, subscribers can enjoy all 380 Premier League games live for an affordable price. Showmax also offers two other subscription options in 44 African countries: the Showmax Entertainment plan on mobile for US$2.12 per month and the Showmax Entertainment plan, reduced from US$5.38 to US$4.83 per month.
Showmax’s technical platform is designed to handle both live and on-demand content seamlessly and has already successfully streamed major events like the Super Bowl, the FIFA World Cup, the Olympics, and WrestleMania. The platform is active in over 70 countries and is also used to power Peacock.
In addition to sports, Showmax offers a diverse range of entertainment options. The service will offer 21 new Showmax Originals launching in February, as well as popular titles from Universal Pictures, Focus Features, NBC, Peacock, DreamWorks Animation, and Telemundo.
To further strengthen its African focus, Showmax has partnered with Moment, a payment network builder, to offer various payment options for customers. DStv customers can also add Showmax to their monthly bill and enjoy discounts.
The new Showmax app will be available in app stores from January 23, 2024, with a staggered migration process across 44 markets. Existing customers will receive information on accessing the new app, with the full transition expected to be completed by February 2024.
