The Saudi Film Commission has recently announced that it will significantly reduce licensing fees for cinema operators nationwide. This move is expected to pave the way for a considerable decrease in cinema ticket prices, which will revolutionise the cinematic landscape of Saudi Arabia.

The decision to slash financial fees for various cinema licenses comes under the leadership of Minister of Culture Prince Badr bin Abdullah and was approved by the Film Commission’s Board of Directors.

In addition, the Film Commission will now have jurisdiction over licensing production studios, the production of visual and audio content, and the distribution of cinematographic films.

The Board’s meeting also approved activating financial compensation discounts for cinema ticket revenues and fees. This initiative aims to encourage the private sector to lower ticket prices and offer attractive promotions to the public. These efforts are expected to fuel the expansion of cinema screens and promote wider screenings of Saudi films at the local box office.

These decisions underscore the Film Commission’s commitment to achieving strategic goals for the film industry, which includes increasing the box office in Saudi Arabia, enhancing economic contributions from sector companies, and fostering cultural and creative diversity in cinema.

Eng. Abdullah Al-Qahtani, CEO of the Saudi Film Commission, emphasised the Commission’s efforts to stimulate the film industry by incentivising cinema companies to offer discounts and promotions and increasing the presence of Saudi films in cinemas. Al-Qahtani added that the fee reductions are in line with international averages and aim to support cinema companies in ensuring the sustainability and growth of the sector.

Since its inception, the Film Commission has spearheaded the development of the film sector in Saudi Arabia. The Commission has focused on infrastructure development, regulatory frameworks, financing, talent stimulation, local production, and attracting international production, all geared towards enhancing the Kingdom’s cinematic landscape.
