At the recently concluded OTT Streaming Platforms And Content Management Summit, which took place on 27 – 28 Feb 2024 in Cape Town, South Africa, Stanley Benjamin Similo, President Of the SABA and co-convener of the event, shared SABA TV’s journey, currently at a pivotal juncture, poised to redefine its model and embrace cutting-edge solutions to reach even greater heights.
Mr Similo shared that the genesis of SABA TV was rooted in a vision to provide quality programming for the people of Southern Africa. However, despite noble intentions, the journey was fraught with obstacles. One of the most significant challenges was ensuring that the signal reached all regions effectively. This hurdle underscored the critical need for robust technology infrastructure capable of seamless deployment across diverse geographical landscapes.
In an effort to address these challenges, SABA TV sought assistance from within the Southern African community. Collaborating with SADC people, the team embarked on a mission to enhance accessibility and expand reach. However, despite earnest endeavours, it became evident that a fundamental reevaluation of SABA TV’s model was necessary to overcome the barriers hindering progress.
The realisation dawned that traditional methods alone might not suffice in surmounting the obstacles. As technology continued to advance, SABA TV recognised the imperative of embracing innovative solutions to propel its mission forward. One such avenue under exploration is the transition to cloud-based services, promising scalability, flexibility, and efficiency in content delivery.
However, amidst the pursuit of technological advancements, SABA TV remains anchored to its core mission of serving the communities of SADC. The ethos of inclusivity and empowerment continues to guide its endeavours, driving innovation with a purpose.
