The Advertising Regulatory Council of Nigeria (ARCON) has denied reports that it charges US$3,296 as an advert vetting fee.

In a statement issued by Winifred Akpan, the head of Corporate Affairs, ARCON described such reports as false and misrepresenting the vetting fee process. Akpan clarified that the vetting fee is US$38.46, not US$3,296, as reported.

She further stated that a deterrent fee is not required for ads produced in Nigeria. The statement also disclosed that information about vetting fees and associated rates can be obtained from the ASP secretariat and ARCON offices nationwide.

ARCON’s efforts are aimed at encouraging the use of local talents and the production of advertisements in Nigeria as part of their industry development and growth program.

The Advertising Regulatory Council of Nigeria has taken issue with a recently published interview in a national daily headlined “Advertisers protest ARCON’S N3 million Advert vetting fee.”

This is one of several interviews with the President of the Advertisers Association of Nigeria, ADVAN, Mr. Osamede Uwubanmwen, in which he misrepresented the facts and maligned the reputation of ARCON as an insensitive and anti-industry development agency.

Organisations are encouraged to embrace the use of local talent and the production of all advertisements and marketing communication directed or targeted at the Nigerian market.
