Canal+ Group has recently acquired a stake in Marodi TV, a prominent Senegalese production company known for its popular TV series across Africa. This move further solidifies Canal+’s partnership with Marodi and enhances the Paris-based company’s presence in French-speaking Africa.
Marodi TV has contributed content to Canal+’s channel lineup for the past five years. The exclusive series premiered on Canal+’s channels and gained popularity among its 8 million subscribers in Africa.
Established in 2012, Marodi TV has been dedicated to making high-quality African content accessible across various media platforms. With a catalogue of over 600 hours of content and a strong YouTube community of 6 million subscribers, the company has produced successful series such as “Pod & Marichou,” “Maitresse d’un homme marié” (“Mistress of a Married Man”), and “Karma.”
As a result of the partnership, Marodi TV will continue to be led by its founder and majority shareholder, Senegalese entrepreneur Serigne Massamba Ndour. Collaborating with Canal+ will enable Marodi TV to expand its content distribution across Africa and beyond, tapping into synergies with Canal+. Additionally, plans are underway to create an original catalogue for Canal+’s upcoming channel in Pulaar, the language spoken by the Fulani community prevalent in Senegal, Guinea, and Mali.
This strategic investment aligns with Canal+ Group’s commitment to fostering Africa’s creative industries and underscores its confidence in its media and entertainment sectors.
Serigne Massamba Ndour, CEO of Marodi TV, expressed optimism about the alliance, stating that it will strengthen its production and broadcasting capabilities and open up opportunities for expansion across the continent.
