The National Association of Broadcasters (NAB) of South Africa recently held its 31st Annual General Meeting (AGM) in Johannesburg. The in-person event brought together all NAB members, key industry partners, and stakeholders to review and plan for an ever-changing future of broadcasting in South Africa.
“The developments in broadcasting over the last 30 years have been phenomenal, from just a handful of broadcasters in 1994 to over 250 diverse broadcasting services, delivering vibrant local content in multiple languages across the country,” said Executive Director Nadia Bulbulia.
The AGM’s headline speaker was Mr Mothibi Ramusi, the chairperson of the Independent Communications Authority of South Africa (ICASA).
Mr Ramusi emphasised the critical role of appropriate regulatory frameworks in shaping South Africa’s broadcasting future.
“I’m here to learn more about the opportunities and challenges and how we can work together for the next five years. Let our future vision reflect the changing broadcasting and regulatory landscape. Including rural communities and women will be important in preparing for the future.” Ramusi said.
The NAB Chairperson, Mr. Nick Grubb, noted that having the ICASA chairperson at the AGM “underscored our shared commitment to advancing the industry.”
“Given the need for regulation to keep pace with audience and technology shifts, there’s never been a more important time for collaboration to constructively develop opportunities in the TV, Radio, and related digital industries.”
The NAB Deputy Chair, Philly Moilwa, expressed his gratitude to the ICASA Chairperson for his open engagement and commitment to working with the industry.
